11. The Church of St. Peter and St. Paul

This is a beautiful Baroque work from the early 18th century. The church and the adjoining monastery belonged to the Order of the Crusaders. Attention is drawn to the paintings by the Scheffler brothers, which are the greatest treasure of Baroque art in Nysa, and a unique Silesian example of illusionist paintings in Silesia dedicated to the history and cult of the holy cross. Its history is more legendary and symbolic in some places, but some of the stories from this history were considered true. It is no coincidence that in the church of Guardians of the Holy Sepulchre, there are large wall paintings devoted to the cult of the holy cross as well as a replica of the Holy Sepulchre. The piety of members of the Order of the Crusaders was focused on the cult of Jesus’ grave and the cult of the holy cross, and the Order also made a significant contribution to knowledge about the history of the holy cross and continued to extend its cult.
