13. The Jesuit Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary

Once a richly decorated church, after the mother church in Rome, the Church of the Gesù. In 1807, during the siege of the town by the Napoleonic army it completely burnt down. Little has been preserved from its original decoration. The main altar dating back to 1691 has only been partially preserved. A silver regent tabernacle from the early 18th century made by Nysa goldsmith J. E. Hartmann has also been preserved. One of the important parts of the church’s decorations is the Baroque paintings dating back to 1689, by the famous painter Karl Dankwart.
